Client: Ronan DeStefano Joint Venture, Architect of Record
Completed: 2010
Project Description: 200,000 square foot prototype high school. These projects became the prototype for several other three-story high schools for Chicago Public Schools. The second and third floors of the academic wing are each intended to accommodate a separate student body that makes use of the shared common area spaces such as the gym, pool and library. The projects make use of an innovative displacement ventilation system. HJKessler Associates is the sustainable design consultant for the following additional high schools: Back of the Yards, Southwest Area.
Services Provided: Sustainable design team leader accountable for the LEED Certification process beginning early in the project's design phases through to the end of construction.
Results: Each prototype was designed to achieve at minimum LEED for Schools 2007 Silver certification. South Shore is anticipated to achieve LEED Gold certification.
